Bio
Zachary Engfer is a painter, printmaker, and mixed media artist who works out of Irvine, California. Though his approach to creating art varies from project to project, Engfer's work consistently revolves around exploring humanity's complex and deeply strained relationship with the natural world. Through an organic and spontaneous integration of both abstract and representational elements stemming from personal encounters, Engfer creates pieces that continually oscillate between having an unbridled, child-like freedom and an introspective -and often cynical- documentation of humanity in all of its trials and tribulations. All of his works, however, demonstrate a deep fascination with the patterns and orderliness of natural world, especially when juxtaposed with the irrationality and subjectivity of human behavior. Zachary Engfer holds a B.A. from the College of Wooster in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with a minor in Studio Art and is currently pursuing a PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of California-Irvine. Despite being committed to education within the sciences, Engfer continues to pursue his passion for art.
